Christian Family Movement at Christ Church:

Connecting Families, Putting Love Into Action

What is CFM?

Christian Family Movement is a national network of parish/neighborhood small groups of families. Families meet regularly in one another's homes. Through the use of programming available from the national CFM Office and the dynamics of small group interaction, Christian values are reinforced and families are encouraged to reach out in action to others. Christ Church is the first Episcopal Church that we know of to adapt CFM material particularly to the needs of Episcopalians.

What does CFM do?

Be doers of the word and not merely hearers. - James 1:22

CFM groups pray and discuss what they observe in their own family and community. They evaluate what's observed in light of Jesus' teaching and then choose actions to change things for the better. Ultimately, CFM's mission is to encourage action and activity in families, and among family groups. For many of us our family is our first ministry and so our actions are often taken within that group. Groups may choose to focus on actions for the entire CFM group.

These family groups are meant to be low-stress and low-maintenance but provide an opportunity to socialize, pray, discern and support one another in the actions that God is calling on to. Mostly, its a powerful way for families to reconnect and decide who and what is most important.

CFM Groups

1. Are usually made up of five to seven families

2. Meet once a month in one family's home

3. Reflect and pray using the CFM booklet

4. Have similar life-stages, regarding their children

Families are usually brought together based on ages of their children, when they have them. Each group decides the best times and places to meet. Group leadership rotates and is often based on who's hosting the meeting. Clergy are available to help guide and encourage groups in their conversations and ministries.
