Christ Child Project

The Christ Child Project helps low income families of Alexandria to provide Christmas gifts for their children. Families are chosen with the help of Alexandria Social Services, Head Start, the Public Housing Community, and other programs which serve low income families in the city.

Ministry Needs

This is a large project that takes place during the first two weeks of December. We need people oriented individuals with an interest in working with a wide spectrum of the city's population, who enjoy shopping and shop keeping. Spanish speaking volunteers are especially need for store hours. Volunteers to shop for toys and gift items; price items for sale; setup the store in the church auditorium; act as personal shoppers with our clients; provide food for the volunteers; serve as floor manager when the store is in operation; and help run one of the project activities (e.g. kick-off, signup volunteers, coordinate volunteers for the store, and in-gathering for the gifts).

Training Provided

On the job! The length of this project is short term; participating in it is trying it. You will not be sorry, and your time will be well spent.

Meetings and the time required

The steering committee meets occasionally in the fall. The greatest numbers of volunteers work during early December as few as two hours or whatever time one can spare. The store is open one Friday evening the second week of December. Volunteers interested in leadership roles should contact Michele Smith as indicated below.

Benefits

The real pleasure that comes from helping others succeed at providing a bountiful Christmas for their family. Opportunities to work and get to know many of our neighbors and fellow parishioners.
