“…there was a wedding in Cana of
Galilee…Jesus and his disciples had been invited to the wedding…
The name for our marriage
preparation course, Water Into Wine, comes from Jesus’ first miracle performed
at a wedding in Cana as recorded in the (New Testament of the Bible).
In this story, the host runs out (2nd
chapter of the Gospel of John)
of wine and Jesus is compelled by his mother to provide more wine for the party;
so he turns to large stone jars, has the servants fill them with water, and then
changes the water into very fine wine.
When a couple begins a
life together a similar transformation takes place:
we go from being ordinary individuals to becoming something
extraordinarily and miraculously different:
two join together to become as one and we are both the better for that
transformation - just like a fine wine.
And just like fine wine, a good marriage depends on being willing to take the
time to craft it and hone it and to start off on the right foot with the wisdom
and mentoring that others who are experienced in the art of marriage can
provide.
Our Water
Into Wine course was created to provide
education, growth in faith together, and small group interaction for couples
preparing to be married at Christ Church. This class is also open to couple
who are members of Christ Church but whose weddings will be out-of-town.
Classes are held on the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00
PM
in the Meade Room and usually last an hour and a half. There are also two
half-day retreats each year (April and October) held on a Saturday, in
addition to evening classes. These mini-retreats summarize the topics
covered in the program and provide engaged couples private time to discuss
some subjects in more depth.
